The Greater Washington Green Jobs Corps (GWGJC) was established by Green DMV to advance the region's economic, environmental, and climate protection initiatives and help meet the demand for skilled workers to provide services in the clean energy economy. The unemployment rate is beyond 10% in the region and the average age of construction workers in the United States is 45 years old. As the demand for workers increases, there is a need to attract a new wave of workers in the energy and utility industries. The Greater Washington Green Jobs Corps seeks to connect young adults from low-income communities in the Greater Washington area with necessary life skills and green job training to prepare them for employment in the clean energy sector.
