On November 23, 2009, Green DMV joined 1Sky to bring attention to December talks in Copenhagen on climate change. As a part of the "Art for Climate" project, Green DMV held a Green Kids! event at Children's Studio School in Northwest, Washington, DC.

With world leaders set to gather in Copenhagen, from December 7 to December 18th to negotiate a new international climate treaty, we need President Obama to show bold leadership in enacting solutions to the climate crisis. It is time for the United States, responsible for more global warming pollution in the atmosphere than any other country, to take strong and decisive action.
At this critical moment we need to come together to urge President Obama to go to Copenhagen and push the U.S. Senate for a strong climate bill. On Friday, December 4, in coordination with dozens of actions across the country, Green DMV is joining Chesapeake Climate Action Network, 1Sky and other partners here in Washington, DC for a creative action outside the White House.
As part of this event there will be a large “350” banner, as well as dozens of climate-themed banners made by local activists across the country and school children here in DC. We will display these banners as a powerful visual statement of the need for bold solutions now, then deliver them to the Obama administration to make sure our President sees the creative power behind our movement. Green DMV has partnered with Children's Studio School to have the artistic students to create a climate-themed banner for the Make Art for Climate project. The children will accompany Green DMV, 1Sky and other organizations to the White House to deliver their banner to the Obama administration.

On November 23, 2009, Green DMV hosted a Green Kids! event to educate the students at Children's Studio School on climate change as the United States prepares for climate negotiations in Copenhagen on December 7-18. The event not only taught students about the consequences of climate change, but offered some actions that the students could take to help the environment.
The students also learned about the dangers of plastic bags to our environment as Charles Satterfield from the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) talked to the students about the benefits of canvas bags. DDOE also gave every student a canvas bag to use as the District's plastic bag tax takes effect January 2010.

In 1977, Children’s Studio School, a community-based non-profit arts organization and full-day school of the arts and architecture, ushered in a radical concept: a school where very young children (initially three – five years old) of diverse abilities, learning styles, and economic and cultural backgrounds work in studios with highly developed artists as a total means of education.
At Children’s Studio School, working in the arts is the core and framework for comprehensive learning. The organization’s mission is to develop divergent and multidimensional capabilities of thinking, acting, knowing, and intercultural understanding in young children for navigating the complex world in which they live.

Please join us just before the Copenhagen talks begin to encourage President Obama to take leadership position in climate negotiations.

We are especially calling out for mothers (or fathers) with children to take part in this action. Let's portray a human face of who is most in need of climate action now. We need President Obama to act act to defend our children's future.
