Green Faith Advisory Council




A Faith-based Perspective

GREEN DMV has convened a Green Faith Advisory Council (GFAC) made up interfaith leaders from faith-based institutions in the District of Columbia. GFAC helps to provide a spiritual perspective to all Green Faith Initiative activities.



GREEN DMV hosts GFAC meetings to discuss topics of sustainability and consult with the GFAC members on programmatic direction and focus. It is the responsibility of GFAC members to identify to the most pressing needs of their congregations to ensure that the Green Faith Initiative meets those needs through targeting sustainability education for houses of worship.

Green Faith Advisory Responsibilities

  • Provide a faith-based and spiritual perspective to the Green Faith Initiative

  • Identify needs of congregations

  • Help establish programmatic priorities around sustainability

  • Build green bridges into the community

  • Implement sustainable practices in their houses of worship

A Commitment to Diversity in Faith

The Green Faith Initiative is inclusive and rich in diversity. GFAC members and participating houses of worship are comprised of the following religious affiliations:

  • Baptist

  • African Methodist Episcopal

  • Catholic

  • Muslim

  • Jewish

  • Quaker

  • Scientology

  • Unitarian

  • African Methodist Episcopal Zion



Working groups helping to create clean and healthy communities

GREEN DMV is working with the Green Faith Advisory Council to address issues affecting DC residents with practical solutions. Issues being addressed are:

  • Water Conservation

  • Green Workforce Development

  • Green Financing

  • Healthy Eating/ Urban Food Deserts

  • Energy Efficiency: Residential and Building

  • Seniors and Sustainability
