Green Faith Partnerships

District Department of the Environment (DDOE) is responsible for the natural and indoor environments in the District of Columbia. DDOE’s work includes direct assistance to residents and businesses, policymaking, and monitoring and enforcement.

DDOE is a relatively new agency, formed in 2006 from the Department of Health's Environmental Health Administration, the DC Energy Office, policy functions of the DDOT Urban Forestry Administration and policy functions of the DPW Office of Recycling.

DDOE programs are designed to facilitate cleaner air and water, greening our neighborhoods and building space, and assist with the management of hazardous and toxic waste disposal. Additionally, DDOE conducts community and educational outreach to increase public awareness of environmental and energy related issues.

GREEN DMV is non-profit organization (501c3) seeking to promote sustainability and green jobs in low-income communities across America as a pathway out of poverty. The initial focus is our nation's capital and the Washington Metropolitan Area to help influence policy change in the region that will spur sustainable green job growth and equitable environmental policies.

Green DMV is fueled by a passion to ensure that the green economy is inclusive of all people. Notable projects include the development of the leading job corps training program in the Greater Washington region and the Retro-Rescue” project, which retrofitted Gospel Rescue Ministries, a Washington, DC homeless shelter to reduce their energy costs and to expose a disadvantaged population to green jobs.

Energy Star Program is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy in 2009 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 30 million cars — all while saving nearly $17 billion on their utility bills.

Let's Move Initiative is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady, dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. Sure, this is an ambitious goal. But with your help, we can do it.

Combining comprehensive strategies with common sense, Let’s Move! is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years. Giving parents helpful information and fostering environments that support healthy choices. Providing healthier foods in our schools. Ensuring that every family has access to healthy, affordable food. And, helping children become more physically active.
