GREEN DMV and UNCF host environmental leaders in DC at Unplugged networking mixer

4.17.11 - GREEN DMV and UNCF hosted environmental leaders from across the country at Funxion Restaurant for a networking mixer. The guests were in the District of Columbia for the National UNCF Building Green Learning Institute held at the Hyatt Regency in Capitol Hill. Guests were treated to 100% organic cuisine as they mingled with DC environmentalists.

GREEN DMV's Green Faith Initiative (GFI) awards $90,000 to DC houses of worship

4.23.11 - GREEN DMV hosted the first community event for the Green Faith Initiatve (GFI) in the Deanwood community of Northeast, DC. District residents attended the event to discuss why the faith-based community should take the lead in embracing environmental stewardship to make communities green and healthy. GFI awarded $90,000 in energy retrofit grants to 3 DC houses of worship.

GREEN DMV launches city-wide faith-based environmental program

2.15.11 - GREEN DMV brings together faith leaders from all wards of the District of Columbia to discuss an interfaith environmental education program for faith-based communities. The city-wide initiative helps to create programs that promote sustainable practices to conserve energy and create healthy communities.


GREEN DMV launches Retrofit the DMV initiative to lower energy bills

12.11.10 - GREEN DMV is joined by Mayor William D. Euille of Alexandria City to launch Retrofit the DMV. The regional initiative aims to promote energy efficiency in low-income communities to reduce energy costs and create green jobs.

GREEN DMV joins DC Humanities Council for sustainability panel

11.8.10 - The DC Humanities Council hosted World House Series: Local Solutions to a Global Challenge on Monday evening. Green DMV co-founder Rhon Haye joins DC councilmember Tommy Wells and others to discuss how DC residents can improve sustainability.

6.8.10 - GREEN DMV cofounder Rhon Hayes serves as a green jobs expert for a webinar hosted by the Housing and Urban Development sponsored program, Neighborhood Networks.

DC resident lands green job with local energy company

3.28.2010 - GREEN DMV caught up with He'lchie Watts in front of the historic Lincoln Theatre on U street, in Northwest Washington, DC. He'lchie is a graduate of Green DMV's Greater Washington Green Jobs Corps training program and is currently employed with Washington Gas Energy Services.

Weatherization demonstration project at DC homeless shelter

2.3.2010 - GREEN DMV launches the Retro-Rescue Project at Gospel Rescue Ministries, a homeless shelter in Washington, DC's Ward 6. The project aimed to cut energy costs at the shelter as well as expose the residents to green jobs.

Students use art to express environmental messages

11.14.2009 - As a part of the 1Sky "Art for Climate" project, Green DMV held a Green Kids! event at Children's Studio School in Northwest, Washington, DC. The students created an environmentally friendly mural to be delivered to members of congress.

GREEN DMV hosts its first green jobs graduation

8.14.2009 - Green DMV held its first Greater Washington Green Jobs Corps graduation in Washington, DC. The event celebrated the graduation of ten unemployed DC residents that received training in the clean energy construction trade.

GREEN DMV launches Green Kids! program to help students go green

4.27.2009 - Green DMV hosted the first annual Environmental Awareness Day at Jefferson-Houston School for Arts and Academics in Alexandria City, VA. The event introduced students to the impact that everyday actions have on the environment.

GREEN DMV promotes sustainability message at Sidwell Friends School

3.14.2009 - The DC Youth Environmental Alliance hosted a Youth Summit for DC high school students at Sidwell Friends School that brought together students from all quadrants of the city to empower them to get involved in sustainably rebuilding their schools and communities.

Climate Action Rally on Capitol Hill

11.18.2008 - Green DMV co-sponsors a call for Climate Action Now on Capitol Hill. Supporters gathered on Capitol Hill to hear empowering speeches from Bill McKibben, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Gillian Caldwell, Philip O'Neal, Mike Tidwell and others.

Al Gore in Washington

7.17.08 - Al Gores delivers his "Green energy by 2018" speech for his wecansolveit.org campaign. In Washington DC, Al Gore challenged the nation to transform the way it produces electricity, moving to a 100 percent renewable and non-carbon system within 10 years. His goal is to attack simultaneously the interconnected problems with energy prices, security and global climate change.

Philip O'Neal speaks to Young Government Leaders group

5.8.08 - Green DMV co-founder speaks to the Partnership for Public Service, American University, Young Government Leaders and the 13L group. Philip O'Neal, discusses the Green DMV mission to transition small businesses in DC, VA, and MD from consumption-based to conservation-based business practices and help to uplift small and disadvantaged communities in the green economy.

George Washington University's "Green Wave 2008"

4.5.08 - Green DMV's Philip O'Neal gives a talk on the opportunities of the New Green Economy for businesses in DC, VA, and MD. The event was hosted by Creative Cause, the Summit commemorates the 40th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Assassination in partnership with George Washington University Multicultural Student Services Center and Howard University School of Business.
