Environmental Education for Schools

Green DMV has developed an environmental literacy program that serves as an exciting and engaging introduction to the importance of environmental awareness for elementary school students.

The Green Kids! program introduces students to the concept of climate change and environmental conservation while providing them with tools to make environmentally conscious choices in their lives. Beyond simply raising awareness, Green DMV seeks to foster an environmental literacy program that will help prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of a clean energy economy.

By introducing students at a young age to the urgency of the current environmental crisis, we can affect their fundamental attitudes towards the environment and help raise a generation of young people that make protecting the environment a priority and a way of life.

In April 2009, Green DMV launched its first Green Kids! event in Alexandria, VA for 300 elementary school students at Jefferson-Houston School of Arts and Academics. The school has a minority make-up of 80% with many of its students residing in low-income communities.
