Message from Founders

Dear Friends,

The Green Revolution is upon us. We need to make sure that the people who were left out of the economies of the past are locked in the clean energy economy of the future. We need to foster the creation of a socially responsible culture within inner city communities by building  the knowledge of sustainability and breaking through the barriers of economic inequality.

We can start by taking massive action to expose these communities to the opportunities of the green economy. We can promote awareness by greening community businesses, and educating community leaders on environmental stewardship. This is a must, if we are to prepare the mindsets of dislocated youth and low-income workers for green jobs. By 2010 there will be 500,000 new jobs created to support polices related to green buildings, energy conservation, residential solar energy and green roofs. These jobs will provide opportunities for advancement along a career track of increasing living wages.

Over the next few years over a billion dollars will be invested to create green job training opportunities that are available to everyone  It will take a disciplined effort to match the people who need work the most, with the work that most needs to get done. The time is now to spread environmental awareness and action. The green boom will be all-inclusive, unlike the high tech boom of the dotcom era and the in-the-know stock market boom. We all have the opportunity to take part in the benefits of a clean energy future.

It is the goal of Green DMV to see that these communities are informed. We also want to be certain that a contribution to sustainable environmental practice is made within the small and disadvantaged business community. These communities and the environment need our cooperation, and ours being a society with the power of influence, it is our responsibility to make that change. We believe every push that steers us in the path of sustainability is a worthy one, and one that we are certainly proud of.
